Guest player questions, answered.

What a guest player is, who checks eligibility, what a coach sees of a child, what it costs and how a parent says yes.

The basics

What’s a guest player?
A player who suits up for a team they aren’t normally rostered on, usually for a tournament or a weekend when that team is short at a position.
Is it only for tournaments?
No. Any game a team is short for: a league game, a scrimmage, a weekend tournament.
Who checks tournament eligibility?
The team. Every event and governing body has its own guest-player rules, and the team is responsible for making sure a guest is eligible.
Which sports does it cover?
Baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball and football, matched by position.
How does a spot get filled?
A coach posts an open roster spot for a game. Families whose athletes are marked available offer to play, or the coach invites a player. A parent approves every invite. After the game the coach and the family each answer one question: would you play together again?

For parents

Can I look before I pay?
Yes. Joining is free: list your athlete and see the open spots near you, with the age group, position, day and zip code. A membership is what makes your athlete visible to teams, lets you offer to play or say yes to an invite, and emails you when a spot that fits is posted nearby.
What does a membership cost?
$3.99 a month or $29 a year per athlete. A membership makes the athlete visible to teams, lets the family offer to play and accept invites, and emails the family when a spot that fits is posted nearby.
Is there a launch offer for families?
Yes, while places last: the first 100 athletes listed get 6 months of membership free. Your card is saved when you start and is not charged until the free months end. After that the monthly plan is $3.99 a month unless you cancel first, and you can cancel anytime from your athlete’s page. Each athlete uses one place, so two athletes use two. The yearly plan does not come with free months. The sign-up pages show how many places are left, and the offer disappears when they are gone.
Can we take a break between seasons?
Yes. Switch availability off and your athlete drops out of search. Cancel the membership whenever you like.
Can an adult player use it?
Adults 18 and over manage their own listing. Adults are never shown to youth teams, and youth are never shown to adult teams.
Can a player play up an age group?
A coach can only search for their own team’s sport and age group. A player can play up to three years older, never down.
Do tryouts cost anything for a family?
No. Families register their athletes for a tryout free.

For coaches

What does it cost a coach?
Joining and browsing available players are free. Posting an opening is $2.99, or $49.99 a year for unlimited openings for one team. Posting is what shows you first names and lets you invite, and only after ProSlot has checked your team.
Is there a launch offer for coaches?
Yes, while places last: the first 100 coaches get 10 free game postings, added when ProSlot approves your team and good for 12 months. Each free posting posts one open spot in place of the $2.99 price. A team on the $49.99 yearly plan does not need them, and they do not cover tryouts. The sign-up pages show how many places are left, and the offer disappears when they are gone.
Can a team post a tryout?
Yes. Checked teams can post tryouts for permanent roster spots. Posting one costs the same as posting an opening, and the yearly team plan covers tryouts too.
Are there limits on searching and inviting?
Yes: 60 searches a day per coach, 15 invites a day per team, 10 waiting invites per open spot, and searches reach 50 miles at most. Every search a coach runs is logged, with who ran it and which athletes it showed.

Safety

Who approves a team before it sees names?
ProSlot staff approve a team only after confirming the coach’s identity and SafeSport training, each current when the team is approved, and the coach has accepted the code of conduct. A coach can’t approve their own team.
What does a coach see about my child?
An age group, positions and a distance range. A first name and last initial only appear once the team is checked and has posted a spot.
What does a coach never see?
Last name (until you accept a roster spot from a tryout), birthday, address or town, school, photos (we don’t take any), and your phone or email until you say yes.
Can a coach contact my child directly?
No. Every invite comes to the parent or guardian, never the child, and contact details are exchanged only after you accept, and only with that one team.
What happens if a coach does something that worries me?
Report the team from the invite in your account. The team is suspended the moment you send it and every invite it has out is withdrawn. ProSlot staff review it and write down what was decided. If anyone is in danger, call 911 first.
What does saying no after a game do?
Say no, or block a team at any time, and your athletes never appear to it again. A coach who says no about your athlete stops seeing them too.
